Study of the Work Process of Editors at Perspective 9 Co., Ltd. Case Study: Documentary Programs and Entertainment Programs

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the workflow of editors at Perspective 9 Co., Ltd., focusing on case studies of documentary and entertainment programs. The objective is to understand the steps and factors affecting work efficiency, as well as the differences in the editing process between documentary and entertainment programs. The specific objectives are as follows: 1. To study the steps and workflow of documentary and entertainment program editors at Perspective 9 Co., Ltd. 2. To compare the differences in the editing process between documentary and entertainment programs. A qualitative research method was used, collecting data through in-depth interviews. The population consisted of editors within the company, and a sample of 2 individuals was selected. Data was collected using interview questions, observation of the work process, and examination of past works of the programs chosen as case studies. The research findings indicate that 1. The workflow and processes of documentary and entertainment program editors at Perspective 9 Company consist of 3 stages: In the pre-production stage, there is a mutual understanding between the client and the team to ensure everyone shares the same perspective and goals before scriptwriting and storyboarding. In the production stage, editors must check the quality of the acquired footage in terms of composition, sharpness, aesthetics, suitability for the intended concept, and file type. In the post-production stage, editors will review all footage to understand the overall clip, then select and arrange events in order of importance. After that, the editing process begins by selecting images appropriate for the content, along with pacing the visuals according to music or sound effects. And 2. The differences in the editing process between documentary and entertainment programs reveal that editing documentaries and entertainment programs differ in several aspects, such as content structure, editing techniques, and working time. Documentary programs focus on storytelling with a continuous sequence of events, building credibility and providing complete information, while entertainment programs prioritize rhythm, emotion, and enjoyment through various special techniques. Additionally, key factors influencing the editing process include footage readiness, guidance from the director or producer, and deadlines. This study provides recommendations for developing editors' workflows to enhance the efficiency and quality of their work.
