Abstract: This study, “A Comparative Study on Animation Development Between Humans and Generative AI Using GANs: A Case Study of Mystic Realm Journey,” aims to compare the production processes of 2D animation created manually versus those generated by AI. The research applies GANs technology and utilizes a suite of tools, including ChatGPT for script and content development, Midjourney for designing still images and characters, Kling AI for generating animations, CapCut for editing, and Krotos Studio for sound effects production. A quantitative analysis was performed by measuring production time and cost, while quality was evaluated by a sample of 320 participants. The findings indicate that the use of Generative AI substantially reduces production time. In the case study, a 4-minute 40-second animation was produced at an average rate of approximately 2.14 hours per minute, a dramatic improvement over traditional methods that typically require several months. Additionally, the adoption of AI significantly lowers production costs and reduces the reliance on extensive human resources. Although 85% of evaluators rated the overall animation quality as good to excellent, challenges remain in achieving fluid character movements, maintaining consistency in character appearance, and producing natural-sounding voice-overs. Overall, this study demonstrates the promising potential of Generative AI to expedite animation production and reduce costs, while also highlighting key quality control issues that must be addressed for its effective implementation in the professional animation industry.
