Abstract: This research aimed to ( 1) study and ( 2) compare population’ s expectation toward desirable characteristics of local leaders, and (3) investigate the recommendations of local people. This quantitative research collected data from 360 people who live in Lamae Municipality, Chumphon Province. Questionnaires and research statistics, such as frequency distribution, percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used as analytical tools. Statistical mean was discovered by (T-test) with One-way ANOVA in statistically significant at 0.05. Most participants are female with are over 61 years old and have marital status The educational levels of participants are mostly elementary which their occupation is vendor and the highest average monthly income is 10,001- 15,000 The results of the study show that the overall people's expectations toward local leadership characteristics are at the highest level ( 􀴤=4.43), which can be respectively classified as human relations, morality, ethics, knowledge management, and personality. According to an individual comparison in education, occupation, and monthly income, the study finds that there is a statistically significant difference at .05. In terms of sex, age, and status, there is no statistically significant difference at . 05. In the part of recommendations, most of people suggested that the leaders should have an interpersonal relation in order to build the confidence to the people in communities, which will strengthen the leadership to those leaders.
