Abstract: This research aims to design and develop the portable herbal compress steaming machine to be small size, portable, and can control the temperature and working time. It is designed as a semi-open system by the middle space for inserting the herbal compress, that contacts with the hot stream, directly. The temperature (10 c to 80 c) and amount of water (500 mL and 700 mL), and steaming time period were studied as 2 cases: no workload, and the workload was a 200-gram herbal compress. It was found that at 500 mL of water without workload, the time to the boiling point was 6 min 45 sec to 1 min 33 sec. When there is workload, the time to the boiling point was 7 min to 1 min 57 sec. At 700 mL of water without workload, the time to the boiling point is 9 min 52 sec to 2 min 18 sec. And when added workload, time was 8 min 57 sec to 2 min 1 sec. there was demonstrated that when using 500 mL of water with and without workload, the time to reach the boiling point was not different, that depends on the initial temperature of the water. However, when using 700 ml of water, it was found that adding the workload decreased the time to boiling point. The developed portable herbal compress streaming machine is suitable for steaming without the lid of the container when using a limit to 500 mL of water.
