This academic article aims to analyze the ethical challenges emerging from the structural shifts in the media ecosystem, particularly in an era where algorithms have become the primary mechanism for information selection and dissemination—a phenomenon known as "Algorithmic Gatekeeping." This analysis is situated within the context of a smart society and the pursuit of sustainable development. The findings indicate that algorithmic operations on digital platforms have significantly impacted society in three key dimensions 1) the creation of "Echo Chambers" and "Filter Bubbles" that restrict exposure to diverse perspectives; 2) the promotion of sensationalized content to maximize engagement, which undermines the collective intellectual well-being of society; and 3) a lack of transparency and accountability inherent in "Black Box" technology. The article highlights that the challenges for communication arts professionals today extend beyond the production of high-quality media; they encompass a vital role in advancing communication ethics by fostering "Algorithmic Literacy" among audiences and advocating for policy-level accountability standards. Ultimately, communication must serve as a foundational tool for building a smart society—one that is characterized not only by technological intelligence but also by a robust ethical framework that fosters sustainable intellectual and social development.en_US
