dc.description.abstract | The objective of this cross-sectional analytical research was to examine factors affecting self-care behaviors of type2 diabetes mellitus patients. The sample group was 230 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who received medical treatment at Samrong Klang Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province. The instrument utilized for data collection was questionnaire. Statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. The results indicated that factors having significant relationships with self-care behaviors of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (p-value < 0.05) were family members having type 2 diabetes mellitus, perceived severity of diabetes (r = 0.150), perceived risk of complications from diabetes (r = 0.800) and social support (r = 0.166). In addition, the factors affecting significantly the self-care behavior of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (p-value < 0.05) included perceived risk of complications from diabetes (beta = 0.295), perceived severity of diabetes (beta = 0.269) and social support (beta = 0.225), which together could predict 12.8 percent of self-care behaviors of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results suggest that sub-district health promoting hospitals should have specific plans for developing perceived risk of complications from diabetes, perceived severity of diabetes and social support to increase more self-care behaviors of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. | en_US |
