Factors associated with stress among motorcycle taxi drivers in Muang District, Nakhon Pathom Province

Abstract

This cross-sectional study was to find the stress levels and factors associated with stress among 100 motorcycle taxi drivers in Muang District, Nakhon Pathom Province. Data were collected by using personal questionnaire, working questionnaire, health questionnaire and SPST-20 questionnaire during in the past 6 months and were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the Pearson correlation coefficient. The study found that motorcycle taxi drivers had higher levels (62.0%), severe level (20%) and moderate level (18.0%) of stress (respectively). Only one factor significantly associated with stress (p <0.05) was chronic disease (r= - 0.229, p = 0.022) and other factors such as gender (r= 0.038, p = 0.708), age (r= - 0.074, p = 0.465), education level (r= 0.064, p = 0.527), financial status (r= 0.025, p = 0.802), income per month (r= - 0.074, p = 0.465), working experience (r= 0.127, p = 0.208), working hours per day, (r= 0.040, p = 0.691), smoking history (r= - 0.135, p = 0.181), and alcohol drinking history (r= - 0.056, p = 0.578) were not associated with stress. These findings may be the health information in promotion, prevention, surveillance, and control of hazards from stress among motorcycle taxi drivers in the future.
