Abstract: | Anthocyanins are colored pigments found in flower petals. The objective of this research was to compare the results of extracting color from the petals of 10 types of flowers; Rosa spp., Dendrobium sp., Ixora coccinea L. , Sesbania grandiflora ( L. ) Desv. , Bougainvillea spp. , Plumeria spp. , Tecoma stans ( L. ) Kunth. , Nerium oleander L. , Petrea volubilis L. and Clitoria ternatea L. , for use in plant tissue staining to replace expensive chemical dyes. Four solvents were distilled water, methanol, 95% ethanol, and 20% acetic acid with a ratio of 1:1 (weight (gram)/volume (milliliter). The staining results showed that Rosa spp. extracted with ethanol and methanol, Nerium oleander L. extracted with methanol and acetic acid, Ixora coccinea L. extracted with distilled water, methanol and acetic acid can clearly stain plant tissue. Therefore, these three types of flower petals can be developed into plant tissue dyes. |
