Abstract: This quasi-experimental research aimed to investigate the relapse smoking rate and the reasons for the relapse smoking among smokers provided brief advice by the Village health volunteers (VHVs). The sample consisted of 36 regular smokers. Research instruments consist of the smoking cessation assisting program by the VHVs demographic data questionnaire, smoking information questionnaire, Heaviness of Smoking Index (HSI), 7-day point prevalence abstinence at 90 days, and the relapse smoking questionnaire. The scale content validity (S-CVI/Ave) and the reliability were 0.89, 0.87, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research results illustrated that 52.78% of participants provided brief advice for smoking cessation by the VHVs at three months relapsed to use tobacco smoking. For a return to smoking cause, the most common factors triggering relapse were emotional triggers (100%), social triggers (98.42%), pattern triggers (52.63%), and others (42.11%). Therefore, the study results can be implemented to develop a smoking cessation service system by eliminating the causes of relapse smoking by community nurses.
