| Abstract: | The purposes of this study were to study the correctness in pronunciation of English final
fricative consonants /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/, /ʃ/, /ʒ/ and to analyze the occurrence of variants of these
sounds. The data were analyzed in terms of frequency and percentage. The samples of the study were250 English major students at Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University. The research instrument
used in this study was twenty-four English words with final fricative consonants. The samples
encountered problems on the English pronunciation of final position including the sounds /s/, /f/, /ʃ/, /θ/,
/v/, /ʒ/, /ð/, /z/ from lower to higher levels. The sound /s/ was most correctly pronounced (75.33
percent) while the sound /z/ was less correctly pronounced (2.93 percent). The most apparent variant of
the English final consonant was [t]. The results of this study showed that the samples tended to use a
variant of the English final sounds appearing in their mother tongue, which is an influence of mother
tongue’s interference. การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการออกเสียงพยัญชนะเสียดแทรกภาษาอังกฤษ /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/, /ʃ/, /ʒ/ ในตำแหน่งท้ายพยางค์ วิเคราะห์การปรากฏของรูปแปรของเสียงเหล่านี้โดยวิธีการหาความถี่และคำนวณค่าร้อยละ กลุ่ม ตัวอย่างคือนักศึกษาสาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏพระนครศรีอยุธยา จำนวน 250 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือ รายการคำศัพท์ 24 คำ ผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลพบว่า นักศึกษาสามารถออกเสียงได้ถูกต้องร้อยละ 32.65 โดยเรียงลำดับ จากเสียงที่มีปัญหาน้อยที่สุดไปมากดังนี้ /s/, /f/, /ʃ/, /θ, /v/, /ʒ/, /ð/, /z/ เสียงที่ถูกต้องมากที่สุด คือ /s/ คิดเป็นร้อยละ 75.33 และเสียงที่ถูกต้องน้อยที่สุด คือ /z/ คิดเป็นร้อยละ 2.93 รูปแปรของเสียงพยัญชนะท้ายที่พบมากที่สุดคือ [t] คิดเป็น ร้อยละ 33.15 นักศึกษาไม่สามารถออกเสียงพยัญชนะท้ายภาษาอังกฤษที่ไม่มีในระบบเสียงภาษาไทยได้ รูปแปรที่ปรากฏใน การออกเสียงพยัญชนะท้ายภาษาอังกฤษของกลุ่มตัวอย่างจึงมีความคล้ายคลึงกับเสียงที่มีในภาษาแม่ ซึ่งเป็นปรากฏการณ์ที่ แสดงให้เห็นถึงการแทรกแซงของภาษา |
